He graduated Cum Laude from Western State University College of Law in 1997 where he served as Staff Editor of Law Review.  He was awarded American Jurisprudence Awards in Civil Procedure, Legal Writing, Remedies, and Constitutional Law and was on the Distinguished Honor Roll and Dean's List.


Mr. Rutherford entered the practice of law in 1997 and is admitted to all courts of the State of California as well as the United States Supreme Court and the United States District Court, Central and Southern Districts.



Mr. Rutherford’s areas of practice include all aspects of insurance defense litigation, including general liability, premises liability, employment, auto/trucking, and product liability.  He has worked with numerous commercial and personal-lines insurance carriers, as well as private organizations and individuals, in all phases of litigation including arbitration, trial, and appeal. 
In addition to handling all aspects of insurance defense litigation, Mr. Rutherford has substantial experience in complex litigation including class actions and coordinated cases.  He has also served as litigation counsel in more than one hundred cases involving claims of childhood sexual abuse brought against churches and other religious-based organizations throughout the country.  In 2009, he received the Papal Benemerenti Medal during the papacy of Benedict XVI in recognition of legal services provided to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange. 
Drawing upon his experience in the insurance claims industry as well as over 20 years of practice as a litigation attorney, Mr. Rutherford has achieved successful results for clients by maintaining excellent client relationships through open communication and attention to detail.  Mr. Rutherford recognizes that the litigation process is a collaborative effort and therefore he strives to keep clients continuously informed and involved.

Mr. Rutherford’s career began in the insurance industry as a claims representative for commercial-lines carriers, handling general liability and auto claims.    In addition to overseeing numerous litigated cases and SIU matters, he traveled the country establishing Minor Impact Soft Tissue (MIST) injury units to combat the rise of injury claims arising from minor accidents.
